Elk Country is known for the abundance of elk wandering, grazing and just laying down napping. We've camped here many times and have always been truly inspired by seeing all the elk. This time again, it did not disappoint, the elk were literally scattered all over the campground grazing with their last year babies.
We camped in site 519, which was especially good for keeping our eyes on all of the elk roaming around our RV. The site includes water, electric, sewer, picnic table, showers, laundry and a generous grassie area to park your rig. It's a little spendy, at around $50 per night, but a good central and safe camping spot and the area has a lot to do while you visit. We visited all the places of interest, listed below, and enjoyed each one.
Things to do:
Dry Lagoon Beach - 1 mile away
Stone Lagoon - 1/4 mile away
Prairie Woods Redwoods - 10 miles away
Fern Canyon - 9 miles away ( This is where they filmed some of Jurassic Park! So very beautiful!)
Lady Bird Johnson Grove - 6 miles away
Patricks Point / Sumeg Village
Arcata Farmers market - 29 miles
