Sometimes on our snow bird explorations we find a hidden gem and Gilbert Ray Campground ticks all of the boxes. We enjoy it so much that we return every year.

Gilbert Ray Campground, a park in Pima County, is near Saguaro National Park and situated 13 miles from Tucson, Arizona.

Activities to Enjoy:

There are many activities available in the Tucson Mountain Park such as hiking and biking on the well maintained trails but also numerous opportunities to explore the surrounding area, such as:

Saguaro National Park has an amazing display of many types of cactus and beautiful flora and fauna. This particular year was abundant with rainfall and the cactus were blooming profusely. In all of the years we have explored the desert, we have never seen so much beauty.

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum offers a live animal theater program, raptor flight demonstrations, and exhibits featuring native animals. It's very kid-friendly, but pets aren't permitted. We spent an entire day here enjoying the animal shows and even an ice cream, too.

Old Tucson Movie Studio Theme Park offers live shows and gunfights reminiscent of the Old West. You can enjoy a full day here with rides for the kids, BBQ for the adults, and plenty of movie memorabilia.

The Campground:

There are 130 RV sites, each equipped with its own electric hook-up, and 5 designated tent sites. There are many water spigots located around the park and well-maintained flushometer bathrooms, but no shower facilities. Reservations can only be made at PimaCounty.com

The price is $35.00 per night, and the stay is limited to a maximum of 7 days.

This year, we stayed at site 27 in Loop C. It offered a stunning view of the desert and was incredibly tranquil.

Cheers!

Jeff and Liz
