We began this leg of our 30 day journey in Lacey, Washington. My sister was the most gracious of hosts and offered us a closer spot to the Port, considering our hometown of Bend, Oregon is nearly a seven hour drive to Port Angeles, it was a very convenient location.
We left at 7:30am in our Navion with the reliable Honda CRV in tow. (We love our toad for the flexibility of venturing onto tighter roads and exploring places the RV cannot go.) The drive North was smooth sailing and we had plenty of time to catch the 10:30am departure of the MV Coho.

Jeff made reservations online at the Black Ball Ferry Line, ahead of time, which we highly recommend. The cost for the RV plus the toad was $247.00 one way.
Helpful hint: We could have saved a few dollars by separating the Honda from the Navion. However, Liz would have had to go through Customs on her own, which she was not fond of the idea, so we stuck together. Even with reservations its imperative you arrive 90 minutes early.
It was astonishing to see how tight they fit cars, trucks, motorhomes and trailers on the ferry!
The rules are you have to leave your vehicle and go upstairs to the many lounge areas. They offer food, snacks, beverages, a cute gift shop and very clean restrooms.
The 90 minute trip across the Strait of Juan de Fuca was a smooth one and we arrived to the customs facility at 12:05pm. Nothing to declare or report on entry , they require a valid passport and ask a few questions mostly where are you heading and how long will your stay be.
